This guided tour includes entry and interpretation at the fishway and the canyon trail at Bec-Scie Outdoor Center. In the heart of Saguenay, 15 minutes by minibus from the port of call, the Center de plein air offers breathtaking landscapes. Follow the trails along the magnificent Rivière-à-Mars canyon and cross the footbridges that offer a view of this lively creek. Throughout the course, our guide will allow you to familiarize yourself with the natural phenomena that have shaped this landscape. The route is accessible to all the family.
Hitoric area (45 mintes)
Itinerary : From the Port to “Pyramide des Ha!Ha!” (La Baie)
Planned Activities : Theme: La Baie (heritage sector) - Business town. Interpreted tour of *workman's road* and the high-end executive neighbourhood remaining from the defunct Consolidated Bathurst (once a paper factory). Discover different architectures and learn how Saguenay was first developed / Theme: History and Heritage. Visit Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean’s historic cradle and memorial sites: Monument des 21, Ha! Ha! Pyramid. At this point our guide will inform you about colonization and other relevant facts.
Visit to the Fishway (45 minutes)
The Rivière-à-Mars fishway is the best place to learn about the Atlantic salmon and sea trout in the Saguenay. Visit the level ladder which allows salmons arriving from the ocean to bypass the dam to spawn!
There you will find:
- An observatory with porthole where you can see the fish swimming up the ladder;
- transport cage used to transport broodstock to inaccessible areas;
- A screen showing live images from the underwater camera installed in the river;
- Information on Atlantic salmon and sea trout;
You might even have the chance to see one of our happy fishermen with his catch.
